Mindset Mastery is a weekly newsletter about the psychology of self-employment from Jenni Gritters. If you’ve been reading this newsletter for a while and you receive value from it, I’d encourage you to sign up for a paid membership. By doing so, you’re also helping me make business coaching for self-employed folks more accessible to all.
Psst: I’m offering a workshop on February 14th about how to adjust your mindset so you can build relationships with clients with ease, and feel more confident about your offers. Sound appealing?
A few weeks ago, I made the decision to turn my group coaching program, SUSTAIN, into a lifetime access program. After you pay for six months of your monthly membership, you’re just IN. No more payments, no need to prove yourself or rush into the materials. You’re in for as long as I run the program.
One of my beloved clients messaged me when I shared this news. She said: “To be honest, the capitalist inside of me really doesn’t get why you’re doing this, but my humanist side appreciates it very much.”
I laughed.
Many people have been baffled by this decision and I know some might think it’s bad business. Like, I’m just going to let people stop paying? But here’s what I know: I’ve set strong values for the program, including abundance, nourishment and sustainability for both me and my clients. When I started to notice that people felt scarcity about catching up and getting all the materials into their brains in three months, I said: I need to own this. This isn’t the vibe I want.
I care about making this a humanity-first program. Yes, of course I need to make money. But there’s so much else going on here: Brand loyalty, the fact that my SUSTAINers often book additional coaching sessions with me, and the many referrals who come into the program from word-of-mouth recommendations.
The value of the program speaks for itself: Folks who were paralyzed with fear have started to send dream pitches. People who started the program with only one-off projects have set up retainers, which have landed their finances and helped them feel more calm. Members are making more money, feeling more confident, and connected to one another in an authentic way.
And this switch to lifetime access felt aligned for me in EVERY WAY. It brings abundance to life. It’s proof that your pace is allowed here. It quite literally makes the program sustainable for both me and my members.
It’s so important to me that my values aren’t just lip service. It’s so important to me that I get to help people and put them ahead of the capitalist structures that say “hurry, more, better, extract, rush, consume.”
We can build businesses that look different — and they can still provide a comfortable living for us. My business is proof. This program is proof.
And what a delight it is to get to share this whole experiment as I go.
xo,
Jenni
